“Say Goodbye to the Outdated: Fedora 40 to Ship with Enhanced iotop-c for Streamlined I/O Metrics Monitoring on Linux Systems”

As Linux users, we all know the struggle of finding reliable I/O monitoring solutions. But with the upcoming Fedora 40 release, that struggle will finally come to an end. How, you ask? The answer lies in the advanced iotop-c package, set to replace the outdated iotop program.

While the iotop program has served as a popular top-like I/O monitoring tool for Linux systems, its latest version was released a decade ago and receives little updates. On the other hand, iotop-c has been continuously improved and boasts features such as being written in C (instead of Python) and compatibility with small embedded systems.

With such clear advantages, it’s no surprise that Fedora / Red Hat developers have made the decision to switch to iotop-c. The new package will be available under the name “iotop”, while the original iotop will be deemed obsolete. This change is currently awaiting approval from the Fedora Engineering and Steering Committee (FESCo), but given the state of iotop-c and the lack of support for iotop, it’s a no-brainer.

Don’t miss out on this major upgrade for I/O monitoring on Linux systems. Stay tuned for more details on the iotop-c replacement in Fedora 40. In the meantime, check out the Fedora Wiki for additional information. Trust us, this is one change you won’t want to miss.
